Conference on Unwritten Constitutionalism and Informality

The main topic for domestic and international experts in comparative, constitutional, and international law, as well as in political science, was unwritten and informal constitutionalism. In addition to issues of constitutional culture and conventions, the discussions also addressed institutional resilience, the transparency of informal practices, the role of the judiciary, and the global and supranational dimension of unwritten norms.

Workshop: Digitalization, Communication, and the Role of Judges in the 21st Century

Experts in the judiciary discussed key issues surrounding the modernization of justice. The main topics were the digitalization of the judiciary, improving communication with society, and the role of judges in the 21st century. The discussion also focused on effective court management and transparency. Additionally, they debated how courts can better respond to current challenges while maintaining independence.

Join Us: Workshop on Judicial Governance and Rule of Law Advances Hybrid

A workshop on judicial governance will take place in Prague on February 27–28, 2025, focusing on digitalisation, court communication strategies, and judges' extrajudicial activities. This hybrid event invites judges, prosecutors, and legal professionals to engage with experts from across Europe. Participants will gain practical insights while fostering international collaboration. 

Unveiling the Hidden Dynamics: Informal Judicial Institutions in the German Law Journal

Years of research and a dedicated workshop in Prague in the Autumn of 2022 have culminated in the publication of a Special Issue of the German Law Journal. The Special Issue concludes the first INFINITY work package. It advances research on the often overlooked role of informality in courts and judicial administration through 19 articles on over 360 pages – including the introduction, 13 case studies and five topical articles.

Science opened to students

Judicial Studies Institute (JUSTIN in short) organized at the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University its first JUSTIN Open Day, or open-door day at the Institute. It informed the students about research and opportunities they have throughout their studies, how to acquire international experiences and with options to participate in research activities. Discussions in smaller groups often turned to studies in Oxford, to publishing risks and also to funding of science and post gradual studies.

INFINITY Workshop in Prague

What are informal judicial institutions, how do they affect functioning of courts, and what is their impact on democracy? These were some topics that the INFINITY team discussed with invited experts during a workshop from 20 to 22 October 2022. Over twenty academics assembled in the magnificent rooms of the CEELI institute, the Villa Grébovka in the heart of Prague.
